Why Heating Battery?



In the future, every home will be self-sustainable. That seems to be a given fact. We will be able to produce, store and deliver all the power we need. The PV industry has already made its part. The price of solar panels has decreased by 90% in the past 10 years, and today our biggest hurdle is the storage of energy for the time the sun isn't shining.

But if we look at the energy needs of a household, a curious fact appears. A household actually spends 65% of its energy needs on heating vs 35% on electricity. That means heating storage is the main problem to solve. And that is where Batsand comes in place. By tackling heat storage instead of electricity, batsand is capable of cutting the costs of energy storage by 99.4% versus a Lithium battery.

A typical household will use around 10 000 Kw/h per year in heating. As of today, the current price for a lithium battery with such power would be around 3 000 000 USD. The price to build a sand battery from Batsand with a heat storage capacity of 10 000 Kw/h: <15 000 USD.
